City of God is about the Lord Jesus Christ. We are about proclaiming His Gospel, making disciples, and becoming like Him. Who are “we?” Good question. City of God is a local church that has been born out of much prayer, sacrifice, and dreaming by Casey and Paige Bombacie. Their mission is to get as many people “on mission” as possible (more on that here.)

Places are important to God. God created places before He created people. Living in some of the most beautiful and diverse places in America has provided us with a unique perspective on God’s family and how people connect to His story no matter their place in life. But God’s story is more than places. His story is about the people, in the places.

God’s story for us started in Seattle, WA; where we were born, and raised. In January of 2001, as a newly married couple, we moved to a new place: San Diego, CA. We volunteered, interned, and eventually Youth Pastored at The City Church in San Diego. We have great memories with friends and family there. All three of our children were born in San Diego. Catalina Grace, Caleb Casey, and Jonah Lee Michael are our California kids. It will always be a special place to us!

In 2009, change was in the air. New people and new places were on God’s heart for us. In July, our family was led to Bethany

Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Bethany and the south has been amazing for our family to see God’s family in a whole new place. We have grown and matured, as a family, through the opportunities afforded us at Bethany. God has blessed us every step of our journey.

Our story does not end there. New places, new people, and a new chapter have begun in Los Angeles, CA with City of God. Since 2001, the Lord has spoken 3 clear words about each of our moves to different places:

  • 2001: Our move to San Diego (The City Church) – Luke 24:49 – “Tarry in the City [church] until you are endued with power from on high.”
  • 2009: Our move to Baton Rouge (Bethany) – Luke 24:50 – “Then Jesus lead them to Bethany and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.”
  • 2013: Our move to Los Angeles (City of God) – Luke 24:52, 53 – And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem (the City of God) with great joy: and were in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.”

Join us in making fully-formed disciples on mission in Los Angeles.
